In art we have been learning the skills of shading in a range of mediums. This week in topic we learnt about the South American Favelas. In art we unpicked artists who have created the favelas through discussion of their techniques and hidden meanings. A lot of the children liked how the artists used the bright colours, in which the people painted their houses, but weaved darker colours in to show the poverty and crime there. Today the children drew their own representation of the Brazilian favelas whilst incorporating their new skills of shading. There were ideas of making the favelas look nice at first glance but 'trapped', 'eerie' and 'chaotic'. Well done Year 5!
