Year Three English

Developing Story Skills

In English we have been reading stories with woodland settings. The stories which have inspired our work are The Lost Happy Endings by Carol Ann Duffy and The Tin Forest by Helen Ward.  Both books use rich, detailed illustrations and precise vocabulary to hook the reader.  The children have developed a range of skills through engaging with these books.  We have written similes and developed our understanding of speech punctuation.

I have really enjoyed working with the children on this unit as we have considered the moral and ethical dilemmas presented in the stories. Is revenge ever the right course of action to take? How can we all take more responsibilty for our local environment?
