Understanding Upthrust
This week the children found out why objects weigh less in water than they do outside of water. This helped consolidate last lessons learning on the difference between weight and mass - the mass of the toy car did not change BUT the weight changed in water when the force upthrust began to act against gravity.
Then we investigated which objects had the strongest upthrust force. We found that the ball with the largest surface area had the most upthrust force as it was harder to push down into the water.
