WW2 inspired cooking!

Image of WW2 inspired cooking!

This week, it was Class 6's turn to have their cookery lesson with the wonderful Mrs Legault. This is usually done in small groups, but we thought it would be a great opportunity to learn even more about WW2 and merged it with our topic lesson for a whole class session! We made carrot cookies from the 'Victory Cookbook', we discussed how the quantities such as sugar were much smaller than in usual baking due to rationing at the time and how lots of recipes relied on vegetables families often grew themselves in victory gardens! In addition, we got to develop some important cooking skills including: cutting hard vegetables with the 'claw' grip, grating hard vegetables and measuring in spoons! We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon cooking and produced some delicious cookies (which were apparently much better than the carrot fudge we tried on our launch day!).
