What have we been up to this week? (W/C 7th October)

This half term in Class One we have been assisting Queen Elizabeth II by writing instructions to help her catch her hat and make a new one. We have all written incredible instructions and learnt about all the features of an instruction text. This week we finished our second set of instructions to send back to the Queen, we hope she will be really happy with them, I know I am!

We also spend this week looking at some very tricky addition, using part/part/whole models and writing addition number sentences in 4 different ways. We were very excited to learn a very big word 'commutative' the ability to switch the two parts around in a number sentence, I was incredibly impressed that the children all remembered this word and could explain it!

In Topic we discovered more about Queen Elizabeth II's incredible life and ordered her major life events chronologically and in Science we continued to explore materials, looking specifically at the properties of different materials. We continued with our amazing Mandarin sessions this week as well, learning numbers up to 10, the children all have done this amazingly, soon we will be fluent in Mandarin I am sure- such a great skill!

We are all starting to feel much more settled in Year 1 and I am really excited to see what the our wonderful class will achieve next week (hopefully a reply from the Queen is on the way!)
