Australia Day

**Happy Australia Day**

Children in Year 2 have been finding out all about Australia this half term and what better way to enhance our learning than by celebrating Australia Day!

We began the day with a fashion show to display our fabulous Australia inspired costumes; we had Kylie Minogue, surfers and park rangers along with Australian footballers and native australian animals such as crocodiles! All of the children looked fantastic and I was so impressed with the effort that had been made by all (thank you parents!).

Following that we learnt all about the geography of Australia and the states that make it up and Darcy's auntie sent us a video about Melbourne all the way from Australia which really brought our learning to life.

We made lamingtons; a traditional Australian recipe (if you want the recipe, ask Mrs Lawton) and practised making Aboriginal dot paintings. We also read stories about Australian animals, played in our travel agents and made our own story books and puppets

We learnt so much and had the most fantastic day!
