Debating!

Last Friday afternoon, Mr Waddington from Harehills Primary School came to class 5 and launched our debate topic of Mayan farmers can protect themselves better than Mayan Nobles, which also links with our ‘Keeping Safe’ theme.  The children had so much fun and were so enthusiastic as we started off the afternoon with rubber chicken.  We were that loud that we could be heard from the main school building!  The children got to vote with their feet with whether they agreed or disagreed with the statement.  With their view point, they created sentences, linking ideas together and when spoken they tried to emphasis their main points.  All the children made incredible progress and got to say their idea to the whole class.

We have then continued the debating sessions within class this week by always starting the lesson with rubber chicken and a chant which gets us warmed up and ready to debate.  We worked on trying to persuade other people of our view point by completing conscious alley.  Class 5 have been so engaged with the debating and I can't wait to see the final team debates!
