World War 2 Launch Day

Image of World War 2 Launch Day

Clas Six had an absolutely fantastic day launching their WW2 History topic. The children spent the morning as evacuees. They came into school dressed the part and were given an evacuation tag to confirm their official participation in Operation Pied Piper. The children then spent the morning in the country, being inspected by the billeting officer, practising air raid siren drills (as advised by the ARP) and helping Mrs Jones on her farm, as her husband and sons were away on the frontline! We listened to letters from our parents to help us empathise and humanise the experience of those who were actually evacuated. In the afternoon, we became historians looking at WW2 items and working out what they were, how they were used and why they were important to the war effort. The day came to an end with some very interesting show and tell pieces, and a taste of the (not-so-delicious) Christmas treat 'Carrot Fudge'.. there were some mixed reviews! As always, this is often one of the learning highlights of the year and we think this was the BEST year yet!
