Fossil Finder

This afternoon we were incredibly lucky to have a special visitor come and see us at school. Mr Briggs (a dad and Govenor at the school) heard about the fact that we were studying the famous fossil finder Mary Anning and brought us in a collection of the fossils that he has discovered over time at Whitby.

Mr Briggs started off by showing us a special fossil called a coprolite - we all passed it around and looked at it very carefully before he revealed that it was dinosaur poo! He then spoke to us all about what fossils are, how they are made and the different types of fossils you can get - did you know that there are 5 different types of fossils? He also allowed us to look at all the different fossils he has collected over time - we had to be very careful as some of them were very big and heavy!

We had a fantastic afternoon looking at the fossils using magnifying glasses! Mr Briggs then showed us some extra special fossils that he has collected which we were very delicate and special. We were then incredibly lucky as Mr Briggs gave us our very own fossil collection to keep forever.
