Welcome to Class R at Bramham Primary School

Class R are really enjoying Sports Week. They have had Five Star Sports in to do multi sports with them which they really enjoyed especially when they got to chase the teachers as well. They have turned the outdoor area into an exercise course where they have taken turns to make up activities. The children have also had a great time learning some circus skills.

 

The children have talked about parts of their body both internal and external. They are beginning to label parts of the body by themselves. They have enjoyed talking about how blood moves around the body.

 

 

The children are enjoying lining up on the big playground ready for Class 1. They are enjoying showing the new children the areas of our classroom and how to use things. They are also enjoying visiting Class 1 and exploring the classroom.

 

In Maths we have introduced our number of the week 35. The children are also exploring estimation and how to make a ‘sensible guess’.

 

Class R have really enjoyed exploring the fabulous new outdoor area. They have had great fun using the water to paint. They have used their balancing skills to climb on the new climbing frame. The children will be adding soil and herbs to the planter in the next week.

We have enjoyed using the outdoor water to make the cars move down the pipes and thinking about how we can measure whose car went the furthest.

We have started our new topic on dinosaurs and we have spent lots of time role playing with the dinosaurs in the role play area. The children have suggested things they would like to find out about dinosaurs including where the dinosaur eggs would be kept.

This week the children have learnt some songs about going to space and the solar system. The children have been eager to learn the names of the different planets. They have explored the differences between the planets and were excited to learn about Saturn with its icy rings. The children are enjoying writing independently. They are writing words and sentences about space. They are also enjoying the role play area which is a space station where they can role play being astronauts.

 

Our focus number this week is 12.

The children have been thinking about place value and have been excited to talk about 2 digit numbers. We have talked about our number of the week 13 and we have looked at how it is made with 1 ten and 2 ones.

The children are becoming more confident using the tens frames to show a number and were excited that our number of the week needs 2 tens frames.

In phonics we are focusing on our blending and segmenting skills to support reading and writing. The children are becoming increasingly confident in recognising and reading tricky words on sight.

This week we have enjoyed reading the story ‘Whatever Next’. The class have enjoyed using the boxes outdoors to make their own rockets to BLAST OFF to space. The children have worked really hard to write a speech bubble for baby bear. The children have been busy helping change the role play area to a space station. They have created stars to hang from the ceiling and used the junk modelling to create their own rockets.

The children continue to work on number formation and are beginning to think of ways to record. Lots of the children are eager to draw around the numicon pieces to show what they have done.

The children are working hard on their reading and are always eager to spot sounds and tricky words in the class library. They have been excited to find digraphs in books and are busy helping each other spot them.

This week the children have been thinking about Halloween especially witches. We have read the story ‘Room on the Broom’ and have had great fun making our own potions. The children have recorded some potion ideas using drawings and initial sounds to label them.

The children have worked with the numicon and ordered the plates 1-9. We have had a challenge to make 9 using the numcion in lots of different ways.

In phonics we have been learning the new sounds below. We are working hard on blending to read words as well as listening carefully for initial sounds so that we can write.

                              

This week the children have been thinking about Halloween and pumpkins. We have read the story ‘Pumpkin soup’ in class and have talked about being a good friend. The children really enjoyed cutting a pumpkin open and scooping out the seeds from inside. The children were keen to create their own pumpkin faces using the 2D shapes.

The children have worked with the numicon and ordered the plates 1-8. We have used the numicon to find ways to make 8.

In phonics we have been learning the new sounds below. As well as this we have worked on our recognition of the tricky words I, to, the, no and go. The children are beginning to blend VC words like it, on and in. 

                              

This week the children have been thinking about Autumn and they have noticed the leaves changing colours in the trees in and around our outdoor area. The children have created some fantastic Autumn tree pictures using paint and printing. They have also made some lovely observational drawings of conkers using the pastels.

We have created fantastic repeating patterns using Autumn objects. The children have challenged themselves to use 2, 3 or 4 objects to make their repeating patterns.

In phonics this week we have been learning new sounds and we are beginning to have a go at reading words by blending the sounds we know. We are also listening carefully for initial sounds to help us with our writing. We continue to focus on accurate letter formation.

This week we have taken part in the school Harvest Festival. We walked with our Year 5 and 6 ‘buddies’ to the church. We sang lots of songs and were brilliant at singing the song Big Red Combine Harvester as well as doing the actions.

In class we have read the story Owl babies. We have enjoyed talking about how the baby owls were feeling in this book. The children have ordered a sentence for a speech bubble for Bill (the smallest owl). They have used their knowledge of initial sounds and tricky words to help them.

The children are becoming more confident accessing all areas of the classroom and are making lots of models in both the creative and construction areas. The children are enjoying sharing models they have made with the class and are always keen to bring home models for their families as well.

We are working on accurate number formation and careful counting. The children are enjoying making patterns using a variety of resources.

 

In phonics this week we have looked at the sounds g, o, c and ck. We are also looking at how to correctly form our letters.

This week the children have found out their house teams. We have played games in P.E where we have moved in different ways around the hall.

Our focus number this week is 5.

The children have worked with the numicon and ordered the plates 1-5. As well as this they have used the number tiles outside to order and jump on a given number.

The children have started to explore Autumn and what happens in autumn. They have enjoyed going on Autumn walks around school and have spotted lots of leaves changing colour.

This week the children have all changed for PE and had great fun playing a traffic light game in the hall. We are excited about getting our new PE t-shirts in our house colour next week! We have continued to learn names and are working hard to remember each other’s names.

Development Matters!

This week the children were extremely excited because we had snow! We went outside to explore the snow and had great fun making snowmen. We even did an experiment to see what happened when we dropped snow in a puddle. We have also had fun creating poppy pictures as part of our work on Remembrance Day.

 

Our focus number this week is 10.

The children are becoming confident recognising the different plates and are beginning to carry out simple calculations using the numicon. We are also looking at number formation and we are trying really hard to make sure all our numbers are written correctly.

The children are becoming more confident using the tens frames to show a number and were excited that our number of the week is a full tens frame.

phonics we have been talking about digraphs including ll and ss. The children are beginning to understand that these are 2 letters and 1 sound. The children are continuing to work on tricky word recognition and are regularly attempting to blend words to read. The children are using their phonic knowledge to write simple words and we are working really hard to ensure accurate letter formation. The children are also working on letter names alongside letter sounds.
